CIRCE – Climate Change and Impact Research: The Mediterranean Environment
The CIRCE Project, an IP European Project under the Sixth Framework Programme, involves 64 partners from Europe, Middle East and North Africa, working together for 4 years to evaluate the best strategies of adaptation to climate change in the Mediterranean. The objectives of the project are to predict and to quantify physical impacts of climate change and to evaluate their consequences for society and the economies in the Mediterranean area. CIRCE is developing an integrated approach to understand the combined effects of climate change and is in the process of identifying adaptation and mitigation strategies in collaboration with regional stakeholders.
With CIRCE the Mediterranean area becomes the focus of regional assessment and the methodologies developed for the region will contribute to better understand the interactions among the full spectrum of climate change impacts and societal dynamics.
During the side event, experts from the regions, academics, politicians and a variety of stakeholders will discuss the key challenges and opportunities the Mediterranean region is confronted with.
